We need you! Teenangels has been in operation since 1999, and many new chapters have been recently formed. A growing number of teens, parents, and law enforcement agencies have indicated a strong interest in forming their own Teenangels chapters. But teenangels is woefully lacking the necessary resources to fully implement and take this project where it needs to go. We need funding, in-kind contributions (especially in Web site hosting, design and production of offline materials) and sponsors to help deliver the programs to kids and teens nationwide.
Given your influence, involvement, and power in the Internet industry, and dedication to serving your community, I, Brittany, a Teenangel for the past 6 years, am personally reaching out to you, to help us in whatever way you can.
BACKGROUND: Teenangels are special teens, from 13 to 18 years of age, who devote their time to helping others. Leading cyberlawyer Parry Aftab, Executive Director of WiredSafety.org (the world's largest online safety and help organization and 501c-3 corporation) founded the teen outreach internet safety group in 1999 and personally trains most of the Teenangels. The teens are trained in all aspects of online safety, privacy and security. Once trained by the law enforcements and other experts in their fields, the teens develop their own unique programs to help spread the word about responsible and safe surfing. They run programs for other teens and younger kids, senior citizens and parents. Some have chosen to work towards equitable access for disadvantaged families, while others have focused on access for children with special needs. A select few have testified before the National Research Council, briefed members of Congress and White House staff and have had the chance to meet and learn from the leaders of the Internet and cyberlaw policy.
